The paddling pool area in Beachfields will be getting a much-needed face lift as part of Swale Borough Council’s Sheerness Revival project.

The area around the paddling pool outside the Healthy Living Centre will be expanded providing more space for seating, picnic tables and making it a more pleasant place to relax while your children play.

New facilities to the paddling pool such as toilets accessed from within the fenced area and a serving hatch to the new café facilities in the leisure centre are also being included within the works.

The ambitious plans for the centre also include modernising and improving the GP facilities and moving the surgery to the ground floor to improve access to this important healthcare provision.

There will be improved leisure facilities, including a new adventure play area for toddlers and tag active - a fun modern activity for older kids (and grown-ups!) - to get exercise while traversing an obstacle course.

Sheppey Matters, an award-winning health and well-being charity based in the Sheppey Healthy Living Centre, will have a purpose-built space to help them continue providing their valuable and important services to locals.

The existing gym facilities will be expanded and refurbished to help people keep fit and healthy, and a new cafe is planned.

To enable these works the paddling pool will need to remain closed for the whole of summer 2025 as it will be enclosed within the hoarding.

This is to provide a safe working area for the leisure centre improvements and will reopen when the project in Beachfields is completed in 2026.

In addition to general improvements to the surrounding area, a Sheerness themed adventure golf course will be opening this summer 2025.

The project in Beachfields is a key component of the council's £20 million Sheerness Revival programme which aims to improve the health and wellbeing, education and leisure facilities on the Island and create new employment and training opportunities for local people.

The other elements of Sheerness Revival include the expansion of Sheppey College, which has recently broken ground, and the refurbishment of Masters House and the creation of workshop spaces.
