Take part in free art activities during the Sheerness Market this month, thanks to support from Swale Borough Council.
Icon, an award-winning theatre and arts charity, received a Town Action Grant from the council, to bring free art activities to the popular market.
This will be used to host two art events on Tuesday 25 and Saturday 29 March (10am - 2pm) during the Sheerness Market in the Rose Street Car Park, ME12 1AJ.
The "Pop-Up Arts Centre" called Sheerness Creates will be a vibrant, interactive creative space where local people can engage in arts activities throughout the day.
There will be a line-up of artist-led sessions, including craft, clay, a community graffiti wall and music. There will be complimentary tea, coffee and snacks available.
The events are themed around the climate emergency and offer artistic activities that inspire conversations and community action around climate awareness.
It will also be an opportunity for residents to share their memories of Sheerness and the Isle of Sheppey in the context of changes caused by climate change.
Icon is currently creating a new theatre show in Sheerness about the subject, co-commissioned by Creative Estuary and Arts Council England.
This new production will be staged outdoors in September 2026 and feature local people alongside a professional cast and creative team.
Nancy Hirst, Artistic Director/CEO of Icon said:
"Icon has been working in Sheerness on creative projects with young people since 2019.
“As a company, we are really looking forward to meeting and sharing our creativity with the wider community here.
“You can get involved creatively or just pop in for a cup of tea and a chat.
“Thank you to Swale Borough Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for supporting this event, and to Creative Estuary and Arts Council England for supporting our wider work on Sheppey."
