Swale Borough Council is raising the roof on new opportunities for young local entrepreneurs, as work begins to transform garages at the historic Masters House into dedicated business workshops.

The project, which starts with the removal of the old garage roofs, will create three modern, sustainably built makers huts.

These workshops, complete with a kitchenette and toilets, will provide a professional base for artists, makers, and craftspeople aged 18 to 30 to launch and grow their businesses.

This initiative is a key part of the council's £20 million Sheerness Revival programme, a major investment funded by the UK Government. The programme aims to create new employment opportunities while improving health, education, and leisure facilities across the Isle of Sheppey.

The new workshops will join a thriving community of small businesses already based in the main Masters House building, which was refurbished following a £1.5 million council investment.

National charity, Launch It, operates the site and are already working directly with local young entrepreneurs.

They will be offering not just an affordable workspace but also essential mentoring and business training to help them fulfil their potential.

Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the Economy and Property committee, said:

“These workshops are a vital part of our mission to boost employment opportunities in Sheerness by investing directly in our local young talent. It's incredibly exciting that construction is now underway on all three pillars of the Sheerness Revival Project.

“Alongside these workshops, you can already see the impressive scale of the extension at EKC Sheppey College, and work is beginning to modernize the Healthy Living Centre at Beachfields.

“These three ambitious projects will create a lasting, positive impact on the lives and wellbeing of local people in Sheerness and across the Island.”

The new workspaces at Masters House are set to be completed later this year.
