A transformative new curriculum will soon launch at EKC Sheppey College as part of the site’s extension.
The expansion of the college – a key part of Swale Borough Council’s Sheerness Revival Project - enhances its capacity and facilities and will enable the delivery of an exciting new selection of programmes tailored to meet local industry needs.
Part of East Kent Colleges Group (EKC Group), EKC Sheppey College will now offer a wider range of opportunities for learners aged 16-19, alongside a brand-new junior college provision for students aged 14-16.
From the start of the upcoming academic year, the new building will house specialist programmes including Level 2 Engineering, as well as Level 2 and Level 3 Creative Media.
These areas of study have been carefully chosen to reflect the skills most needed by local employers and nearby industries.
Looking ahead, the college also plans to broaden its curriculum further, with new logistics pathways set to launch in the 2026/2027 academic year – a move designed to support the growing warehousing and distribution sector across the Island.
Alexandra Syrotiuk, EKC Sheppey College Principal, said:
“We're so excited about the new extension at Sheppey because it's an amazing opportunity for education on the Island and local people to upskill themselves into employment on and around the Island.
“We have linked with various local employers and stakeholders around the Island to develop the new curriculum.
“We also have some small, some medium and some very large organisations that require engineering as a skill and currently their engineers have to go away to train and complete apprenticeships. That won't be the case because we'll be putting that on in our new building.”
Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of Swale Borough Council’s Economy and Property Committee, said:
“Creating better opportunities for local young people is at the heart of Sheerness Revival, and will have a lasting, positive impact, to make Sheerness a better place to learn, work, and build a future.
“The Sheppey College expansion is a central part of the project and will give young people the specific skills that local employers need.
“We’re also supporting young entrepreneurs with the creation of new workshop space at Masters House, to sit alongside the existing support available from Launch It.
“This, along with the improvements we’re making to local health and leisure facilities, will help create a lasting legacy for the town, with local people at its heart.”
This expansion marks a major step forward for EKC Sheppey College in its mission to serve the local community by equipping young people with the skills and qualifications they need for rewarding careers, right on their doorstep.
The College extension is part of Swale Borough Council’s Sheerness Revival Project, which has been funded by UK Government.
The project aims to improve the health, leisure, education and employment opportunities on the Isle of Sheppey.
The three distinct elements of the project are – to expand EKC Sheppey College, to renovate the leisure centre at Beachfields, including upgrades to the GP Practice, and to create business units for young entrepreneurs at Masters House.
