New Makers Studios in Sheerness will soon be opening their doors to local creatives.

Swale Borough Council has completed the transformation of garages at Masters House into dedicated business workshops.

The three modern, sustainably built, spaces have been created alongside a kitchenette and toilets as part of the council’s government funded Sheerness Revival project.

These workshops will provide a professional base for artists, makers, and craftspeople aged 18 to 30 to launch and grow their businesses.

They will be joining a thriving community of small businesses already based in the main Masters House building, which was refurbished following a £1.5 million council investment.

National charity, Launch It, runs the site and is already working directly with local young entrepreneurs.

They will be offering not just an affordable workspace but also essential mentoring and business training to help them fulfil their potential.

The ribbon cutting ceremony today, 21 January 2026, marks the completion of the first of three major projects, as part of the council’s £20 million investment into Sheerness.

The project aims to improve employment, health, education, and leisure facilities on the Island.

This includes a 900 square metre extension of the EKC Sheppey College, offering new engineering and creative media courses, matching the needs of local employers.

And the refurbishment of the Healthy Living Centre which modernised the GP surgery, adding an extra consultation room and new minor surgery unit, and a custom-made space for charity Sheppey Matters.

The extension also brings a new café, adventure play, an upgraded gym, adventure golf and a free outdoor gym and multi-use games area.

Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the Economy and Property committee, said:

“Today is an incredibly important milestone for our Sheerness Revival project, marking the completion of one of the three major projects.

“Witnessing these once crumbling garages being transformed into spaces for young entrepreneurs to flourish has been amazing, and I can’t wait to see them being used to their fullest.

“Next the EKC Sheppey College extension will be completed allowing more young people on the Island to get a top-quality education in the fields which are needed here.

“We are also hard at work at the Beachfields site, improving the GP surgeries facilities, new spaces for Sheppey Matters and exciting new ways to have fun and get fit.

“There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are confident the people of Sheerness will soon start to see and feel the improvements all of this hard work will bring to the Island.”

Denise Knights, Enterprise Manager for Launch It, said:

“I am delighted with the completion of the garages and cannot wait to introduce these makers hubs to local entrepreneurs.

“They are a great addition to Masters House and Sheppey as a whole.”
