Swale's roads to get deep cleaned

Local roads will be getting some extra attention as Swale Borough Council’s annual deep clean programme gets back underway.
Deep cleans take place on roads where access for the council’s regular cleaning is difficult due to obstacles like parked cars.
Local feedback and council data is used to identify streets that need some extra attention, and residents are asked to move parked cars for a few hours.
This allows crews access to the whole road so they can remove litter and weeds they can’t normally get to.
A regular schedule for roads to be cleaned every Thursday has been drawn up, which spans across all areas of the borough.
The next street cleaning will take place at Westgate Road in Faversham from 10:00 to 12:00 on 15 January 2026, followed by Blue Town High Street on 22 January, and Unity Street in Sittingbourne on 29 January.
Cllr Dolley Wooster, chair of the Environmental Services and Climate Change Committee at the council, said:
“Our deep cleans help us tidy up the roads that are difficult to clean due to parked cars, so to make them most effective we need people to move their cars for a few hours when we are tackling your road.
“We will send letters and have notices up to give you an advanced warning and if we work together, you will be able to see a real difference in the look of your area.
“These more intensive clean-ups will be taking place weekly, each Thursday, and across the entire borough so as many residents on these trickier roads can live in a clean and tidy environment.
“We are always working to identify areas that need some extra TLC, so please let us know which roads you think could do with a deep clean.”
