Swale residents can once again give tennis a try for free thanks to a partnership between Swale Borough Council, the LTA and with the support of the Sittingbourne Tennis Club.

The Free Parks Tennis sessions have relaunched with the next session taking place on Sunday 3 May at 10 am at the King George Playing Fields in Sittingbourne.

Run by trained tennis activators on the first Sunday of every month, the one-hour sessions are open to anyone - no matter your ability or age.

All equipment will be provided making it easy for people to pick up tennis, socialise and get active.

These free sessions will run each month until October as both the LTA and the council are keen to get as many people as possible to try out a new sport.

To book onto the free sessions you need to register with the LTA and visit the King Georges Free Parks Tennis website.

The free sessions were made possible thanks to extensive refurbishment works to the park tennis courts at Milton Recreation Ground and King George Playing Fields in Sittingbourne.

The refurbishments were delivered by the LTA’s Park Tennis Project, part funded by UK Government, and saw seven courts across the two parks getting revamped.

The dated facilities were resurfaced, repainted, and new fencing, nets and gate access technology were installed.

The tennis courts also host Local Tennis Leagues in addition to the free sessions, giving people the opportunity to get involved in friendly and social local competitions.

Cllr Hannah Perkin, chair of the housing, health and communities committee, said:

“Our first set of free park tennis sessions went incredibly well, and we had so many people picking up a racket for the first time, which was great to

See.

“We also offered walking tennis sessions, as well as a competitive league system, truly catering for all abilities.

“The gate access technology and small rental fee help us keep these tennis courts at their renovated-high-standard, but it was important to us to keep them accessible to our residents.

“These free sessions are the perfect opportunity to give a new sport a go, for free, no matter your ability while socialising and making friends outdoors and getting active.”
