People struggling with the cost of living can get crucial support and advice at an event on the Isle of Sheppey next month.

Swale Borough Council is hosting a One Swale roadshow on 7 August in Leysdown, bringing together local charities and other organisations that offer crucial support to local people.

Charities and organisations will all be under one roof, ready to help, from 11am to 1pm at the Swale Family Hub, George Wharton Centre, Warden Bay Road, Leysdown-on-Sea, ME12 4NA.

The roadshow is running alongside the Swale Family Hub’s free family fun day!

You can expect free fun-filled games and activities for families with children aged 0 to 19 (up to 25 with SEND), no booking is needed.

The charities and other organisations will be offering support with people’s health and wellbeing, drug abuse, social care, and financial hardship.

They can also provide things like fuel vouchers, warm packs, bill discounts and employment and training opportunities.

The council’s roadshows have helped more than 4,500 people so far with things like food and fuel vouchers, water bill reductions and health check-ups, and offered them advice on issues such as home safety, energy use, health and debt.

Cllr Hannah Perkin, chair of the Housing, Health and Communities Committee, said:

“The next stop of our One Swale Roadshow is Leysdown - if you live on the Isle of Sheppey and weren’t able to attend last month’s event in Sheerness this is the perfect opportunity to get this invaluable support.

“Our monthly events can help you with financial advice as well as practical cost of living support such as food and fuel vouchers, and bill discounts.

“The amazing charities can also offer advice on a wide range of issues such as debt, drug abuse, mental health and home safety.

“A big thank you to all the charities and other organisations who have supported our roadshows, they are truly amazing at helping us support our community.

“This event will be taking place alongside the hub’s family fun day, so come along and get support and have free family fun with your kids!”

The council is working with the Swale CVS and Faversham Community Networking Group to organise these roadshows, which are funded by the Government’s Household Support Fund.

The next event will be on Tuesday 9 September in Faversham’s Salvation Army, 4 Court St, Faversham ME13 7AW.
