Swale Borough Council’s events that have helped more than 3,500 people with cost of living and wellbeing support have been extended for a year.
The council’s One Swale Roadshows take place across the borough monthly and bring charities and other organisations under one roof, where they are ready and waiting to offer help and support to the people of Swale.
Following the success of last year’s events the council will organise a new roadshow every month for the remainder of 2025, thanks to funding from the UK Government’s Household Support Fund.
Support is available on a wide range of issues from financial hardship - providing things like vouchers, warm packs and bill discounts - employment and training opportunities to health and wellbeing.
This includes practical support such as food and fuel vouchers, water bill reductions and health check-ups, and offered advice on issues such as home safety, energy use, health and debt.
These events have been made possible thanks to the hard work of the Swale CVS and Faversham Community Networking Group who helped the council organise the roadshows.
Next month’s roadshow will take place at Eastern Sheppey Community Hub, Leysdown, on Tuesday 27 May.
The full schedule of roadshows include:
- April (Sittingbourne) - Swallows - Wednesday 30 April
- May (Leysdown) - Eastern Sheppey Community Hub - Tuesday 27 May
- June (Faversham) - Salvation Army - Tuesday 10 June
- July - (TBC)
- August - (TBC)
- September (Faversham) - Salvation Army - Tuesday 9 September
- October (Leysdown) - Eastern Sheppey Community Hub - Tuesday 14 Oct
- November (Sheerness) - Sheppey Gateway - Thursday 13 Nov
Last month’s event at the Swallows Leisure Centre focused on residents’ health and wellbeing and featured the launch of the council’s Smoke Free Spaces Project - which aims to reduce second hand smoke exposure.
Cllr Elliott Jayes, vice chair of the Community and Leisure committee, said:
“The roadshows have been a stark reminder of our resident’s need for support across the borough.
“We are very fortunate to have amazing charities based in Swale, helping people with the cost of living crisis, their wellbeing and so much more.
“We will always support them as much as we can, through funding and things like our roadshows, which provide them with a platform to reach more people in need.
“If you need any help please visit our events across the year, the charities and organisations are friendly, knowledgeable and ready to help!”
