The mayor of Swale is hosting a cross-country bike ride to fundraise for charities Lupus UK and local charity SATEDA.

Swale Borough Council officers will be taking on a 168 mile challenge, from France to Belgium, to create awareness and raise money for the mayor's chosen charities.

The three-day journey begins at Calais Port, on 9 May, where the cyclists will travel along the coast to Brugge following the canal paths of the EuroVelo 4 cycling route.

They will then return to Calais stopping off at Sittingbourne’s twin city, Ypres, for a Mayoral Ceremony for the Mayor of Swale, Cllr Ben Martin, and the Mayor of Ypres, Emmily Talpe.

The mayor’s chosen charities will receive 100% of the donations collected.

SATEDA is a local domestic abuse charity that helps women and children escape and heal from the violence and trauma they experience from the people closest to them.

Lupus UK is a national charity that supports people with lupus and campaigns to create awareness for the disease and help with early diagnosis.

You can help support the charities by donating to the bike ride by following this link.

Cllr Ben Martin, Mayor of Swale, said:

“Over the past year I have been fundraising and advocating for my chosen charities - Lupus UK and SATEDA - and I would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has already offered their support.

“This bike ride is now my final exciting push to generate much-needed income to help the charities continue carrying out their important work within Swale.

“This 160-mile challenge is going to be very difficult for our officers, but it will all be worth it when we are able to give these charities a financial boost.

“Lupus UK and SATEDA are both helping to address issues that are very close to my heart and they, and I, would appreciate any support you can offer.”
