Clear out your junk drawer of cables and recycle your unwanted tech at events being hosted across Swale.

Swale Borough Council and SUEZ have teamed up to host drop-in events where you can dispose of your unwanted Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).

This includes items such as toasters, kettles, lamps, printers, computer screens, smaller TVs, laptops, mobile phones, speakers, and headphones.

Anything with a cable or battery will be accepted as long as it is roughly microwave sized or smaller.

Recycling your electronics helps unlock the precious primary resources within them, while clearing out space in your drawers, cupboards and attics.

The events are taking place at the:

  • Leslie Smith Drive Car Park (at the back of the Arden Theatre), on Thursday 2nd July, from 9am to 4pm
  • ASDA Sittingbourne Superstore, on Wednesday 15th July, from 9:30am to 4pm
  • Sheppey Gateway, Sheerness, on Tuesday 4 August, from 10am to 4pm

Look out for the large pink bins and while you are there have a chat with the friendly SUEZ staff about recycling at the pop-up community stand nearby.

Cllr Dolley Wooster, chair of the council’s environmental services and climate change committee, said:

“I want to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to our, and SUEZ’s, previous Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling events earlier this year!

“Thanks to you the precious materials in your electronics - tucked away in your junk drawers, or cluttering your home - are getting recycled and reused for new products.

“By working together, we were able to send tons of electrical waste to the recycling facility in Sittingbourne, helping unlock the wastes’ full potential while helping protect our natural environment.

“Please take this opportunity to declutter your home of broken, old or unneeded electrical appliances and electronics, we want to see even more of Swale’s waste being recycled and reused.”

Atlanta Giddings-Wilson, Partnership and Community Engagement Coordinator for SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, said:

"We’re really pleased to be working with Swale Borough Council to make electrical recycling easier for residents.

“Every cable, charger or small appliance dropped into the pink bins helps recover valuable materials and keeps waste out of the general rubbish stream.

“These events are a simple way for people to declutter the home while doing something positive for the environment, and our team will be on hand throughout the day to answer questions and offer recycling advice"
