Do you have two minutes to spare, why not help keep Swale clean?

Swale Borough Council’s waste contractor, Suez, has teamed with the 2 Minute Foundation to launch a 2-minute clean-up campaign across the borough.

The project aims to encourage the local community to dedicate just two minutes of their time to pick up litter, promoting environmental stewardship and a cleaner greener environment for everyone.

Swale Borough Council are working with a local business, town council and a charity who have become the guardians of the 2-minute clean boards, which contain litter pickers that people can borrow.

The locations of these brand-new boards are:

  • Faversham Swimming Pool, Leslie Smith Drive, Faversham
  • Queenborough Town Council, 44 High St, Queenborough
  • The Hub CafĂ©, Stadium Way, Sittingbourne

Everyone is welcome, and encouraged, to grab a litter picker and bin bag within opening hours and spend just two minutes litter picking in their community.

Once you are done, return the litter picker to the board and pass whatever litter you have collected over to the businesses who will make sure the recycling is recycled, and the rest is disposed of.

This drive to get the community involved in protecting Swale’s environment is in addition to Suez’s regular street cleaning programme and the deep clean schedule - which gives extra attention to hard to clean roads.

The 2 Minute Foundation is a national charity that is working towards a litter-free world where nature can thrive.

They raise awareness and provide guidance to help communities understand and tackle plastic pollution through their campaigns #2minutebeachcleans, #2minutelitterpicks, #2minutesofpositivity and #2minutesolution.

“We are always proud to be partnering with the amazing charities like the 2 Minute Foundation, as their work aligns with our vision of a litter free greener Swale.

“Our waste contractor’s operatives work incredibly hard to keep our streets clean and tidy through regular street cleaning, and deep clean programmes.

“Taking your litter home is the right thing to do, but sadly people when people do litter, it not only makes an unsightly mess but also damages our environment.

“If we all chip in, even if just two minutes a time, we can make a big difference together and these boards make it easier than ever to help keep our communities clean.

“Thank you to everyone who has signed up to look after these boards, we can’t wait to see our residents grabbing a litter picker and dedicating just two minutes to keeping Swale clean.”

“Please look out for any future green activities happening around the borough to help make Swale one of the nicest places to live."
