Local charities could get up to £20,000 to fund projects that teach people new skills and help them into employment.
Swale Borough Council has opened a new grant scheme to fund Swale’s voluntary, community, social enterprise and faith (VCSEF) sector to deliver initiatives that help locals with education opportunities, digital skills training and access to vital employment support.
The council’s People and Skills Grant is asking interested groups to come together to develop co-ordinated activities, with funding of between £1,000 and £20,000 available.
Projects will need to focus on providing support to the unemployed, increasing levels of digital inclusion and essential digital skills or offer tailored support to help people in work access education.
Key aims being:
- increasing confidence to apply for skills and digital training and further education
- exploring training and skills and digital development options and education options
- accessing employment support, providing digital skills qualifications and awarding qualifications or licences
The scheme is only open to not-for-profit organisations and proposals will be assessed by a panel of partner organisations.
It has opened today (29 May) and will close on 19 June, for more information on the grant scheme and to learn how to apply visit the council’s website.
Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the property and economy committee, said:
“The process of applying for jobs can be very difficult especially when facing rejection, which can really hurt a person’s confidence.
“This grant will allow organisations to offer much needed support to people out of work and help build their confidence to apply.
“It will enable them to teach people new skills and keep them up to date with the latest digital advancements, giving people better prospects for employment.
“This grant will also help people already employed access education, enabling them to better perform in their roles through self-improvement.”
