Grants of up to £10,000 are available to improve local town centres, as Swale Borough Council reopens its Town Centre Action Grant (TAG) scheme.

This scheme is designed to help provide a boost to the towns of Sittingbourne Sheerness and Faversham, as well as the smaller historic centres of Milton Regis and Queenborough.

The council wants interested groups to come together to develop coordinated action plans and projects for the towns, with grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 to schemes that focus on:

  • local arts, cultural, heritage and creative events, and activities in and around the town centres that create interest and promote footfall and usage
  • promotional campaigns to encourage visits and people to explore the town centres, increasing interest and footfall
  • projects that enhance the existing cultural, historic and heritage offer, helping re-enforce a sense of place and encourage visitors

The previous round of funding helped support events such as the Sittingbourne Lantern parade, carnival processions and the Annual Remembrance Day Parade and Service.

Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the regeneration and property committee said:

“We are pleased to announce we are reopening the TAG grant scheme to continue supporting people or organisations who are working to improve our beloved town centres.

“It has been amazing to see all of the events we have funded bring life to our town centres and promote the culture and art that makes our borough so special.

“If you have an idea for an event or see an opportunity to improve your local area, which fits the criteria for this grant, please apply, as we want to help make your vision a reality.”

The grant closes on Sunday 7 July, for more information and to learn how to apply visit Swale Borough Council’s grants page.
