You can still have your say on plans to deliver improved health and leisure facilities on the Isle of Sheppey.
Alliance Leisure, on behalf of Swale Borough Council, unveiled draft plans for one of three schemes that make up the Sheerness Revival Project at a consultation day last week.
More than 40 people viewed the plans for the leisure facilities in Sheerness and gave their comments and feedback before final plans are submitted to the council.
These include a remodel, refurbishment and extension to the existing Sheppey Leisure Complex & Healthy Living Centre at Beachfields.
The remodel will focus on modernizing and relocating the GP facilities, adding a new café, improving the gym facilities and adding soft play and tag active - a fun modern activity for kids (and grown-ups!) to get active.
The plans also aim to enhance the public realm and improve connectivity with the park, town centre and railway station and will add additional outdoor facilities such as adventure golf.
The consultation outlines the key objectives of the Beachfields project:
- improve health & well-being
- connect the town and beach-front
- create a unique destination
- integrate public realm & activities increase participation in facilities
- improve pride, reputation and public ownership
- tackle climate & ecological emergency
People that could not attend the consultation can view the plans here and still have their say here until 8 May.
The design team will then consider the public feedback before final plans are submitted to the council’s planning department.
These plans are one part of the £20 million Sheerness Revival project.
The Sheerness Revival project aims to will improve the health and wellbeing, education and leisure facilities on the Island, as well as create new employment opportunities for local people.
EKC have also unveiled their plans for the Sheppey college extension, which have now been submitted for planning permission.
Masters House, which is already providing a space to support and guide young people through the process of starting their own businesses, will also see additional business units created.
Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the economy and housing committee, said:
“Thank you to everyone who attended the consultation and gave your feedback, it is incredibly important for us to create something local people can get behind, and your feedback is vital for that.
“But it isn’t too late to have your say, and I’d encourage people to have a look at the plans and let us know your thoughts.”
