People were asked to have their say on plans to transform the Healthy Living Centre in Sheerness as part of the town’s £20m regeneration scheme.
Alliance Leisure, on behalf of Swale Borough Council, presented the draft plans for the centre at the Healthy Living Centre at Beachfields on 24 April from 4pm to 8pm.
The draft plans show how the overall site could be remodelled, with improvements to the outside of the building, and the interior layout changed to make better use of the space for residents and tenants alike to use.
The plans include moving and improving the GP facilities in the centre to give local people better access to quality health care.
Improved leisure facilities, including soft play and tag active - a fun modern activity for kids (and grown-ups!) to get active - can also be seen within the plans.
The existing gym facilities will be expanded and refurbished to help people keep fit and healthy, and a new coffee shop is planned.
Outside the building within the public realm, the plans include an adventure golf course for some fun, family-friendly, activity.
The plans are one part of the £20 million Sheerness Revival project.
The Sheerness Revival project aims to improve the health and wellbeing, education and leisure facilities on the Island, as well as create new employment opportunities for local people.
Last month EKC unveiled their plans for the Sheppey college extension, with their plans being submitted for planning permission.
Masters House, which is already providing a space to support and guide young people through the process of starting their own businesses, will also see additional business units created to support local small businesses.
Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the economy and property committee, said:
“We want the Sheerness Revival project to deliver real improvements to people’s lives on the Island.
“These plans look to improve the current healthcare facilities at the centre and make them easier for people to get to by moving them to a better location in the building.
“Improving the gym facilities will help encourage more people to get fit and stay healthy, and the new soft play and Tag Active will offer a fun way to get active for grown-ups and kids.
“The outside of the building will be improved, making the centre a more attractive place to visit with friends and family throughout the year.
“We now want people to see the plans for themselves and let us know their views on what we think we can achieve at the site.
“Once we’ve got this feedback, we can review the plans and get ready to submit them for planning permission.
“If this is then granted latest this year, we can then start the building work to bring the plans to life.”
