Swale Borough Council are teaming up with SUEZ to sell £10 bikes, refurbished through the Swale Cycle-re-Cycle scheme, and collect and recycle unwanted electrical waste.
Residents will be able to purchase a refurbished bicycle - on a first come first served basis - from 11 am on 26 November at Milton Creek Country Park, Saffron Way, Sittingbourne, ME10 2EX.
You can also drop off your unwanted electronics and electricals, helping recycle the precious primary resources within them, while clearing out space in your draws, cupboards and attics.
This includes items such as toasters, kettles, lamps, printers, computer screens, TVs, laptops, mobile phones, speakers, and headphones.
HMP Swaleside inmates refurbish unwanted bikes giving them the opportunity to upskill themselves and make a positive step towards rehabilitation - whilst saving bikes from the tip.
The scheme also provides Swale residents with affordable, environmentally friendly transportation, that helps them keep active and healthy.
More than 150 bikes have been refurbished and sold on through local community groups for just £10 each, making the scheme self-funding and sustainable.
The council funded the initial supply of bike parts and workshop consumables, while Canterbury Bike Project trained an instructor to deliver the City & Guilds qualification at the prison.
If you have a roadworthy bike – two wheels and two brakes - you’d like to donate, drop it off at the donation point at the Sheerness Household Waste Recycling Centre or the Faversham Household Waste Recycling Centre, along with new or good condition used parts.

Cllr Dolley Wooster, chair of the Environmental Services and Climate Change Committee, said:
“The Cycle-re-Cycle scheme is such a unique and well received idea and we are proud to be working with our partners to save bikes from the tip, help prisoners with their rehabilitation and get our residents active.
“We have sadly had some incidents of abuse towards staff during these sale events, which is simply unacceptable. You need to understand that stock is limited and accept that you may not be able to receive one on the day.
“The scheme isn’t going anywhere; we will be hosting more events like this so even if you miss out now there will be other opportunities to purchase an affordable bike.
“We are also working with SUEZ to collect electrical waste at the event, so please help us protect the planet by dropping off your broken or unwanted electronics.
“You may not realise it but there is a lot of valuable resources buried in your draws - each piece of electrical equipment you aren’t using holds copper gold and other important resources which could be being used to make new products.”
There is limited stock, and the bicycles are sold on a first come first served basis.
Please do not arrive more than 20 minutes before the event starts.
Rude or aggressive behaviour towards staff, volunteers, or other members of the public will not be tolerated and anyone acting in this way will be asked to leave.
