Good causes could get a cash boost by signing up to benefit from Swale Borough Council’s new community lottery.

The Swale Community Lottery will be a great way for residents to support the local good causes that matter most to them and have the chance to win cash prizes.

The charities, voluntary organisations and other not-for-profit groups, of all shapes and sizes, that sign up will receive 50% of the ticket proceeds they sell.

A further 10% from every ticket will go into a central pot that will be shared among other good causes through grants, with the remainder being put towards prizes and operating costs.

To qualify as a good cause, organisations need to be non-profit and provide community activities or services within Swale.

The draws will be weekly with the first taking place on 29 March 2025 - people will have the chance to win a jackpot of £25,000, with the other possible prizes of £2,000, £250 and £25.

Good causes will soon be able to sign up and can find out more at an event on 19 March at The Appleyard, Sittingbourne, ME10 4DE - book your ticket here.

Cllr Tim Gibson, leader of the council and chair of the policy and resources committee, said:

“The Swale Community Lottery is a way for people to support local charities and good causes that make a real difference in their area.

“We know how important charities and community groups are to local people, and we’ve set this up to encourage as many people as possible to help support their important work.

“The money raised will make a big difference to these grassroots good causes, whilst also giving people the opportunity to win amazing cash prizes.

“If you’re involved with an eligible local group, please book a space at the event for more information.

“The fundraising is easy and free and will open new sources of income to fund your important work.”

Leading lottery management company, Gatherwell, has been appointed by Swale Borough Council to operate the lottery, having successfully launched similar lotteries throughout the UK.

Nigel Atkinson, Gatherwell's General Manager, said:

“We are delighted that Gatherwell has been awarded the opportunity to deliver the Swale Community Lottery.

“We're looking forward to working with Swale Borough Council to raise funds for many amazing, good causes across Swale.”
