Purpose of the role
To be a key participant in the Sheppey East Neighbourhood Board, by
- supporting and enabling the community to come together to share their ideas in an open and collaborative way
- reviewing, analysing, debating and deciding on priorities for investment.
Board Members are champions for their local area and support the Chair to undertake the Board role in a meaningful and impactful way.
Board Members should be someone who:
- Is deeply connected to their community and passionate about making it an even better place to live, work and enjoy.
- Will read Board papers ahead of meetings and attend Board meetings in person
- Is able to get local people excited about the opportunity Pride in Place brings and is committed to securing the input of a wide range of perspectives via engagement
- Has a good connection to areas of the local neighbourhood, whether that is the wider community, a specific group or local businesses, and can reflect their views without personal bias.
- Is happy to use their own life experience, skills and interests to help shape engagement and projects
- Supports fair and open decision making and is able to help the Chair to take Board decisions back into the community.
- Thinks creatively about solutions to problems and sees opportunity
Board Members do not directly deliver projects – this is about decision making and getting the right projects underway through others.
No formal qualifications are required – we are seeking the right people based what they can bring. We expect the time commitment to be around 2-4 hrs a month, although this may vary and may be more intense in the early months and at peak periods.
Important information
Expenses: Whilst this is a voluntary role (similar to that of a school governor or charity trustee), expenses linked to the delivery of the responsibilities of this role can be covered, including transport, child care and any reasonable costs that allow candidates to perform the role.
Support and training: There is funding to support you with any training you may need, and access to a range of experts you might like to speak to.
Code of Conduct: All Board Members will be expected to sign up to a code of conduct outlining the principles of working in a public position.
