People struggling with the cost of living crisis can get crucial support and advice, as well as information about wellbeing services, at an event in Sittingbourne later this month.
Swale Borough Council are hosting a wellbeing themed One Swale Roadshow on 30 April at the Swallows Leisure Centre, Central Avenue, Sittingbourne, ME10 4NT from 9:30am to 11:30am.
These monthly events take place across the borough and bring charities and other organisations under one roof, where they are ready and waiting to offer help and support to the people of Swale.
This month’s roadshow is focusing on residents’ health and wellbeing and will feature the launch of the council’s Smoke Free Spaces Project - which aims to reduce second hand smoke exposure across locations in the borough.
The council asked residents where smoke free signs should be installed, with the most popular options being primary school gates, children’s play areas, and outside healthcare facilities.
Twenty-five signs are now being installed near hospitals like the Sheppey Community Hospital, within green spaces like Milton Regis Recreation ground and at the entrances to the Swallows Leisure Centre.
The NHS Health Services will also be at the event offering crucial health advice.
There will also be support on a wide range of issues including, financial hardship and general advice services - providing things like vouchers, warm packs and bill discounts - employment and training opportunities and substance misuse advice and support.
The council’s roadshows have helped more than 3,400 people so far with practical support like food and fuel vouchers, water bill reductions and health check-ups, and offered advice on issues such as home safety, energy use, health and debt.
Following the success of last year’s events the council has agreed to fund and organise a new roadshow every month for the remainder of 2025.
These events have been made possible thanks to the hard work of the Swale CVS and Faversham Community Networking Group who helped the council organise the roadshows.
Next month’s roadshow will take place at Eastern Sheppey Community Hub, Leysdown, on Tuesday 27 May, with a full schedule for the rest of the year being prepared.
The list of all the organisations attending the event in Sittingbourne will be available soon.
