People struggling with the cost of living can get crucial support and have family fun at an event in Sheppey next month.
Swale Borough Council is hosting a One Swale roadshow on 23 October in Sheerness, bringing together local charities and other organisations that offer crucial support to local people.
Charities and organisations will all be under one roof, ready to help, at the Seashells Children & Families Centre, Rose St, Sheerness ME12 1AW, from 11am to 1pm.
There will also be a free family fun day alongside the roadshow themed around Julia Donaldson and Alex Scheffler’s book ‘Room on the Broom’.
The organisations on hand to help will be:
- FCNG
- Kent Police
- Wave Community Bank
- Citizens Advice Swale
- KCC Financial Hardship Team
- Crossroads Care Kent
- Age UK Kent Rivers
- The Harmony Therapy Trust
- NHS Talking Therapies
- Mid Kent Mind
- Vibe Youth (Brogdale)
- Swale Family Hubs
These charities and other organisations will be offering support with people’s health and wellbeing, drug abuse, social care, and financial hardship.
They can also provide practical support like fuel and food vouchers, warm packs - gloves, scarves, hot water bottles - bill discounts and employment and training opportunities.
The council’s roadshows have helped more than 4,500 people with things like water bill reductions and health check-ups and offered them advice on issues such as home safety, energy use, health and debt.
Cllr Hannah Perkin, chair of the Housing, Health and Communities Committee, said:
“Sometimes being able to talk through any issues with someone, who is compassionate, experienced and who listens without judgement, can make a big difference to people’s lives.
“On top of that, these organisations can then offer sensible advice, practical support like vouchers and warm packs, and point people towards more specialised support where needed.
“A huge thank you to every one of the amazing organisations who have helped us make these events such a success and helped thousands of our residents who are in need.
“Please come along to this event, there will be a lot of incredible support all in one easy to access place, and an opportunity to have free family fun.”
The council is working with the Swale CVS and Faversham Community Networking Group to organise these roadshows, which are funded by the government’s Household Support Fund.
The following event will be in Sittingbourne on Thursday 20 November (Sittingbourne) at Heather House Community Hub, Ave of Remembrance, ME10 4NN
