The Sheerness Revival project is spreading festive cheer this Christmas, while helping local families in need.
Swale Borough Council’s £20 million government funded project is working to improve the lives of everyone on the Island through three major regeneration projects.
The contractor refurbishing the Healthy Living Centre in Beachfields, Etec Group, donated food and toys to two local charities supporting Sheerness’s families through the winter period.
They donated essentials such as toothpaste, sanitary products, tinned goods and milk to the Fair Share Family Foodbank at the Seashells Centre.
As well as these essential items, there were some festive treats such as hot chocolate, biscuits and chocolates.
They then stopped off at The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal to drop off toys, helping to bring a smile to local children’s faces on Christmas day.
The completed centre will have a modernised GP surgery with a new consultation room and minor surgery unit, and a custom-made space for the health and wellbeing charity Sheppey Matters.
The extension also brings exciting new leisure options to the area, alongside a new café.
Including ‘Tag Active’, adventure play, an upgraded gym, adventure golf and a free outdoor gym and multi-use games area.
Etec previously teamed up with EKC Sheppey College – also being expanded as part of the project - to give their construction students firsthand experience on a working construction site.
The colleges’ new building adds 900 square metres of educational space, allowing them to offer courses that match the needs of local employers.
From the start of the new year, the college will host Level 2 Engineering - featuring classrooms equipped with 3D printers - and creative media courses.
The college also welcomed its first students to a brand-new junior college for 14-16-year-olds earlier this year.
The final piece of the puzzle involves the creation of makers studios behind Masters House.
These spaces will allow young creatives to start their own businesses with support from the enterprise charity, Launch It.
Russell Parsons, Operations Director at Etec Group, said:
“As part of our ongoing social value commitments linked to the Beachfields Leisure Centre project, the Etec team carried out two meaningful donations to support the local community.
“Supporting the communities we work in is a core part of who we are, and we’re committed to continuing this throughout the duration of the Beachfields project and beyond.”
