People struggling with the cost of living can get crucial support at an event in Sittingbourne this month.
Swale Borough Council is hosting a One Swale roadshow on 20 November in Sittingbourne, bringing together local charities and other organisations that offer crucial support to local people.
Charities and organisations will all be under one roof, ready to help, at Heather House Community Hub, Ave of Remembrance, Sittingbourne, ME10 4NN, from 9:30am to 11:30am.
The event is taking place on Carers Rights Day - raising awareness for the rights of unpaid carers and to give them the recognition they deserve – and the carers who come to the event can receive tailored support.
The organisations on hand to help will be:
- Sharewear
- Fuel and Water Advisor
- One You Kent
- Swale Family Hubs
- Citizens Advice Swale
- Memorial Medical Centre
- KMPT Recovery and Wellbeing College
- Wave Community Bank
- MVA - Joy
- The Harmony Therapy Trust
- Health Watch Kent
- KFRS Resilience
- Live Well Kent & Medway
- HCRG Care Group
- Imago
- Kent and Fire Rescue
- MedeQuip
- ADSS
These charities and other organisations will be offering support with people’s health and wellbeing, drug abuse, social care, and financial hardship.
They can also provide practical support like fuel and food vouchers, warm packs - gloves, scarves, hot water bottles - bill discounts and employment and training opportunities.
The council’s roadshows have helped thousands of people with things like water bill reductions and health check-ups and offered them advice on issues such as home safety, energy use, health and debt.
Cllr Hannah Perkin, chair of the Housing, Health and Communities Committee, said:
“Our roadshows have been a fantastic initiative, bringing together the people who need help the most with the charities and other organisations who can offer it.
“It has been incredible to see so many services coming together every month to bring everything they offer into one easy to access space.
“The amount of people needing to use these roadshows has been troubling, we wish no one was in that situation, but we will continue working with our partners and the community to offer tailored support to our residents.
“We have also hoped to break the stigma around asking for help, so many people have struggles for so many varied reasons, and we want to show that there is incredible support within Swale.”
The council is working with the Swale CVS and Faversham Community Networking Group to organise these roadshows, which are funded by the government’s Household Support Fund.
The next event will be in January 2026, keep an eye on Swale Borough Council’s social media accounts or website for updates.
