Swale councillors joined people from across the borough taking part in Remembrance services on Sunday 10 November.

Mayor of Swale, Cllr Ben Martin, attended Swale Borough Council’s Civic Ceremony at St Michael’s Church in Sittingbourne, which was followed by a procession to the War Memorial led by the Royal British Legion Riders.

A two minute silence was observed, before wreaths were laid at the base of the Cenotaph, to commemorate our Armed Forces.

Remembrance Sunday is used as a day to appreciate the service and sacrifice of the soldiers, and their families, who helped defend our freedoms and protected us and our way of life.

The Mayor of Swale, Cllr Ben Martin, said:

“Remembrance Sunday is a very important day to remember our Armed Forces and all those, and their families, who gave so much so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we enjoy today.

“I think we also have to remember those who are fighting for peace and for freedom around the globe today, whether that be in Ukraine, whether that be in the Middle East and further afield.

“Our armed forces are across the globe delivering humanitarian aid, delivering training and supporting people

“We all want peace, but peace comes at a cost and there are those who have sacrificed some and some who have sacrificed everything, we must remember that as we go forward.”
