Children and young people in Swale will have the opportunity to learn about local democracy and meet their councillors.
Swale Borough Council is offering to arrange councillor visits to schools for an interactive session where students can engage with and ask any questions they may have about democracy and politics.
Youth clubs, schools and other organisations working with young people are being invited to take the opportunity and help promote democracy to the young people of Swale, so they can see how they can get involved in shaping their own future.
They will learn about the services the council offer, things like how they keep you from getting sick when eating at restaurants, the leisure facilities they provide and maintain, and how they help make sure homes are safe, and much more.
The council also shared fun and interactive learning resources with schools so their students can engage in politics in a creative way.
Cllr Richard Palmer, chair of the Community and Leisure Committee, said:
“This is a great opportunity for local children to learn about politics, get involved and see what it takes to be a leader.
“Democracy is fundamental to the success of any country, and the happiness of its residents, and having the choice to vote for the people you want to represent your interests is incredibly important.
“We want the next generation to get involved in politics so they can help shape their own future and make a real positive difference to the world around them.”
Cllr Elliott Jayes, vice chair of the Community and Leisure Committee, said:
“We are looking forward to going out into schools and meeting the future generations of Swale and teaching them about what democracy is all about.
“Local politics is incredibly important because it makes sure people’s voices are heard, and the decisions that affect you are being made by people who have local knowledge and understanding.
“If you are a school, youth club or any other organisation that helps children, please take up this opportunity and get involved by contacting us.”
