More than 450 metres of fencing has been installed at Milton Rec to help prevent illegal encampments.
Swale Borough Council acted after three separate incidents at the popular local park took place over the summer.
The council used funding set aside for open space improvements to pay for the installation of knee rail fencing around the park to prevent vehicles being able to drive onto the grassed area.
Cllr Dolley Wooster, chair of Swale Borough Council’s Environmental Services and Climate Change Committee, said:
“We heard concerns from residents that the incidents of illegal encampments at Milton Rec were impacting their ability to use the park for its intended use.
“After assessing our options, we decided the new knee-rail fences will help block off the unprotected areas, while having the least impact on the open but formal feel of the park.
“These new measures will help save our taxpayers money in the long run as each incident costs thousands of pounds, along with the costs of cleaning the site, waste removal and carrying out repairs.”
The wooden fencing is around 50cm high and spans the perimeter of the park, blocking off unprotected areas.
