Celebrate this year’s Great Big Green Week at family friendly events being hosted across Swale.
Swale Borough Council has teamed up with local organisations to host environment themed activities from 8 to 15 June.
The council will be at Graveney Flower Festival, at All Saints Church, on 8 and 9 June to promote this years’ theme; recycling.
They will be running a crafts activity for children to make recycled bird feeders from 10am to 1pm on the first day of the flower festival.
For people who want to test out their green thumb, come along to flower planting events at train stations across the borough.
Funded by grants from the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) In-Bloom, Swale Borough Council and Southeastern Railway will be hosting two events to brighten up rail stations with flowers.
The events run from 2 to 4 pm and will be at the Sittingbourne Rail Station on 8 June and Faversham Rail Station on 15 June.
The council have also teamed up with Sheppey Matters to host cycling events on the Isle of Sheppey on 10 and 13 June at the Healthy Living Centre between 10 am and 12 pm.
The events, funded by the Big Bike Revival, include a pop-up bike repair café – with free bike checks and basic repairs - and a guided exploration of Sheppey’s beautiful cycle routes.
The council have partnered with Faversham Town Council and Cycling UK South East England to bring a range of free cycling activities to residents of Faversham, during the Community Bike Day on 15 June.
The event includes a Faversham town bike ride, cycling activities for children, bike maintenance demos and free repairs, a Swale electric Car Club showcase and a bike amnesty event through Swale Cycle-re-Cycle.
On 14 June Sheppey Matters will be selling bikes repaired through the Swale-Cycle-re-Cycle Scheme at the healthy living centre for £10, with all proceeds going back into the project.
The scheme was set up by Swale Borough Council in conjunction with HMP Swaleside and the Canterbury Bike Project, helping with prisoners’ rehabilitation, giving old bikes a new lease of life all while offering residents an affordable method of transport.
