Works to improve Faversham Pools are underway as Swale Borough Council continues their investment into Swale’s leisure centres.

The changing area, female toilets and plant room will be refurbished thanks to £346,000 from the government’s Pride in Place Impact Fund (PIPIF).

These works will improve the condition, functionality and usability of the changing area; with new floor tiles, drainage, replacement cubicles and an updated, more user-friendly layout.

The funding will bring a new pool chemical dosing system and improvements to the plant room pool filter to ensure great water quality all year round.

While new outdoor pool covers will help prevent evaporation and retain the heat generated by the heating system overnight or when the pools are closed.

The indoor pool covers installed last year, part funded by the council, have already helped cut the pool’s energy costs.

The refurbishment forms part of Faversham Pools and Swale Borough Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the pools for the local community.

The changing facilities will need to remain closed until the works are completed later this year - ahead of the new leisure operator, Everyone Active, taking the reins in April 2027.

The outdoor changing facilities will remain open while the work is underway to make sure residents still have access to showers and toilets when visiting the pools.

Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the Property and Resources Committee, said:

“We are committed to investing in our leisure centres; making them better for residents, more cost effective, and futureproofing the infrastructure so our residents can enjoy them for years to come.

“This Pride in Place funding is helping Faversham Pools make much-needed improvements; making the changing area better, upgrading the water filters and helping to reduce their running costs.

“We are investing elsewhere too, building a brand-new state of the art leisure centre on the Island thanks to the ambitious £20 million government funded Sheerness Revival project. And improving the boiler and plant rooms at Swallows modernising the systems to reduce the cost of running the facility.

“With the new leisure contract coming in next year, and our continued capital investment, there is an exciting future for leisure in Swale.”

Toby Conroy, trustee to Faversham Pools, said:

“We are excited about this project and the opportunity to further improve our facilities.

“We recognise that the work will bring some short-term disruption for our customers, but this will be more than outweighed by the long-term benefits of a fresh, modern changing area that will help ensure the pools continue to serve the community for many years to come.

“Having first worked together when the indoor pool was built over 30 years ago, it is fantastic to be partnering with Swale Borough Council again on this investment in the pools.

“We look forward to seeing the finished result and continuing the next chapter in the journey of Faversham Pools.”
