People struggling with the cost of living can get crucial support and advice at an event in Faversham next month.

Swale Borough Council is hosting a One Swale roadshow on 9 September in Faversham, bringing together local charities and other organisations that offer crucial support to local people.

Charities and organisations will all be under one roof, ready to help, at the Faversham Salvation Army, 4 Court St, Faversham ME13 7AW, on 9 September, from 9:30 to 11:30.

The organisations on hand to help will be:

  • Age UK
  • Citizens Advice Swale
  • Crossroads Care Kent
  • FCNG
  • KCC Financial Hardship Team
  • Kent Police
  • Mid Kent Mind
  • Swale Family Hubs
  • The Harmony Therapy Trust
  • Vibe Youth Brogdale
  • Wave Community Bank
  • We Are With You (NHS Talking Therapies)

These charities and other organisations will be offering support with people’s health and wellbeing, drug abuse, social care, and financial hardship.

They can also provide things like fuel vouchers, warm packs, bill discounts and employment and training opportunities.

The council’s roadshows have helped more than 4,500 people so far with things like food and fuel vouchers, water bill reductions and health check-ups, and offered them advice on issues such as home safety, energy use, health and debt.

Cllr Hannah Perkin, chair of the Housing, Health and Communities Committee, said:

“If you or someone you know is struggling, whether that is financially, with addiction, debt or your health you can get support and advice at our events.

“We wish our One Swale Roadshows weren’t needed, but the reality is there are people in Swale struggling and we want to be able to support them as best we can.

“Our events bring together the incredible charities in Swale all into one space where you can get the support or be directed to the specific support you need.

“This can include fuel and food vouchers, bill reductions, or just a supportive and understanding ear - we hope the remaining roadshows for the year will continue to help those in need.”

The council is working with the Swale CVS and Faversham Community Networking Group to organise these roadshows, which are funded by the government’s Household Support Fund.

The next event will be on Thursday 23 October at the Seashells Sheerness Children& Families Centre, Rose St, Sheerness ME12 1AW.
