Families enjoyed free fun at the Faversham Recreation Ground earlier this month.
Swale Borough Council organised events including skate coaching, willow workshops, heritage walks, crafting activities, kite displays and more!
The activities kicked off on Friday (1 November) with free skating lessons, provided by Scorcha Skate School, the equipment needed was provided so people could just turn up and learn.
There was also a willow workshop on the Friday where people learnt how to weave the fonds into fun shapes like deer while getting closer to nature with Outdoor Studio’s art teacher Martin Brockman.
On Saturday (2 November) children were invited to have fun crafting at a mask making event with the help of Anna Outdoors.
Children also took part in a special lantern festival on the Saturday where they crafted their own lantern and showed them off, along with their new masks, as they walked through the park under the setting sun.
The day ended with a number of lit up kites taking to the skies to create a beautiful display over the Faversham Recreation Ground.
Rounding out the weekend’s events people learnt about local heritage whilst walking through nature by taking part in the council’s heritage walks on the Sunday (3 November).
Cllr Richard Palmer, chair of the Community and Leisure committee said:
“These family friendly events were a great way for the community to come together and have some free fun.
“The Faversham Rec is a much-loved community asset and it is great to see it being used to host these great events.
“Thank you to everyone who came to the events and learnt about our heritage, how to skate, craft and, most importantly, have a blast while getting outdoors in our beautiful recreation ground.
“Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible, our officers and all the partners who are helping host the workshops and events.”
The events programme at Faversham Rec is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, as part of a project to enhance and revitalise this historic site.
