People explored the history of Faversham Recreation Ground and learnt to skate, craft and paint at free family friendly events.

Swale Borough Council took part in Open Faversham 2024 with events including bug searches, clay sculpting, painting, crafting, kite making and more!

Open Faversham gives residents the opportunity to celebrate Faversham’s cultural and natural heritage through events such as community talks, walks, performances, exhibitions and open buildings taking place across the town’s landmarks.

The themes of 2024's events, which ran from Saturday 17 to Sunday 25 August, include maritime and railway heritage, important historical dates such as the 1,000th anniversary of the market and 80th anniversary of D-day, and arts such as sculpture.

The council’s free family activities kicked off with a bug search and clay creature sculpting and ended the nine days of fun with kite making and flying workshops.

Events had limited spaces and needed to be booked in advance - the full list of events included:

  • Saturday 17 August. ‘Search for bugs and create a clay creature.’
  • Sunday 18 August. ‘Arts and crafts to explore the Rec.’ -
  • Friday 23 August. ‘Skate coaching with Scorcha Skate School.’
  • Friday 23 August. ‘Discover the story of the Rec.’
  • Saturday 24 August & Sunday 25 August. ‘Reimaging a bandstand.’
  • Saturday 24 August & Sunday 25 August. ‘Make a kite, fly it at the Rec.’
