Explore Swale this national walking day, Wednesday 1 April, and enjoy the start of spring on one of the borough’s amazing trails.

Swale Borough Council has been working, alongside town councils and community groups, to create a network of routes connecting the sights and sounds of Swale.

These Swale Trails connect to a number of established footpaths including the King Charles III England Coast Path, The North Downs Way and the The Saxon Shore Way.

Here is a catalogue of trails to explore this spring:

Swale Trails

Apples Galore Circular Walk - an uplifting rural walk through the North Kent Fruit Belt.

Ancient Woodland and Waters - walk through ancient woodland and orchards near Borden.

Birds, Boats and Countryside Trail - vistas of both coast and countryside around Upchurch.

If you can’t get out to a trail, why not try walking to work or school or taking a leisurely stroll after dinner.

Walking has many amazing health benefits including:

  • reducing stress and improving your sleep
  • increasing bone strength
  • Improving circulation
  • Helping with weight loss

Cllr Dolley Wooster, chair of the Environmental Services and Climate Change Committee, said:

“Walking is one of the great ways to give yourself a health and wellbeing boost exercise offers without needing a gym subscription or expensive equipment.

“Now that the warmer weather is starting, why not visit one of our green spaces or green flag parks which provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy walking in their local area in Swale.

“Getting out and about in Swale at one of the locations above or around our coast is a really lovely way to enjoy your environment.

“National walking day is also a great opportunity to take a stroll to work, walk your children home from school, or even walk off that heavy dinner - it may just be the start of a new routine.”
