Preparations for another busy summer on Sheppey are continuing, and beach huts users at Minster Leas will have safer access to enjoy their trips to the coast.

Swale Borough Council has refurbished and reinstalled two sets of steps leading to the huts on the Isle of Sheppey as part of their routine maintenance.

There are 55 beach huts across Sheppey which offer a relaxing way to enjoy the Island’s beautiful beaches.

The beach huts are located at Minster Leas and Leysdown, and the council plans to install more in the future to help meet the high demand for the huts on the Island.

The council also recently adopted a beach hut policy, following a public consultation, which sets out how new beach huts could be provided, while making sure the current ones are maintained to a high standard.

Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the economy and property committee, said:

“The beach huts are a popular attraction on the Island, and we are planning to install more to help meet the demand.

“But we do need to keep on top of maintenance as the exposed location gets both the best, and the worst, of the British weather!

“Simple repairs like these not only help people access the beach huts, but show the area is safe and cared for, which people appreciate.

“Well kept beach huts will encourage people to come back and enjoy all the Island has to offer for years to come
