Children and families will be having more fun outside thanks to £17,000 improvement works to the play area in Barton’s Point.

Swale Borough Council has installed new play equipment at Barton’s Point Coastal Park in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey, funded by the UK Government, and developer contributions.

The new equipment is designed for two to six year olds, bridging the gap between the wooden play boat area designed for younger visitors and the other existing equipment.

This addition makes sure there is something for children of all ages to enjoy while visiting the park.

Designed to be navigated as a trail, it features hangout pods for seated or standing swaying, a slide, and water lily pods which children can run or walk across, all on new safe surfacing.

This follows the council’s refurbishment of the Boat House, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, so the café can whip up tasty treats for hungry park-goers.

Cllr Hannah Perkin, chair of the Housing, Health and Communities Committee at Swale Borough Council, said:

“Barton’s Point is a popular place for families to relax, and this new equipment will help make sure the younger visitors can have a fun visit.

“It's a great addition to the existing play area, and with the refurbishments we’ve made to the café so the adults can get a drink and some food, there’s something for all the family!

“This is a great example of what developer’s contributions can pay for - improving our local infrastructure like our play areas, green spaces and country parks.

“We can’t wait to see families getting out in the sun and enjoying these new facilities.”
