A memorial garden for those affected by the loss of a baby was blighted by graffiti last week.
The council worked with the East Kent Baby Memorial Garden Charity to create the special memorial in King George's Playing Field, Sittingbourne, last year.
The garden gives local people touched by pregnancy and baby loss a place to remember them.
A board provided by the charity displays personalised terracotta tiles, featuring a name and significant date, for loved ones to visit.
Painted tags appeared across the site, and the plaque was badly marked, though no tiles were damaged.
Councillor Hannah Perkin, chair of the council’s Housing, Health and Communities Committee, said:
“This is a special place set aside for people to reflect on the passing of a baby, and I just can’t understand how someone would make the choice to do something as heartless as this.
"It’s heartbreaking to see the memorial garden vandalised, and my heart goes out to those who visit to remember their loved ones.
"We are working with our contractors to clean up the damage, so people once again have a peaceful place to reflect and remember their little ones.”
Anyone with any information about the damage can report it to Kent Police.
