Are you sure you're recycling right?

Did you know that not everything that can be recycled can be collected in your blue recycling bin at kerbside? This is because the recycling facility can only process certain items.

We know it is sometimes confusing to know what can and can’t be disposed of in your blue recycling bin. We have a handy online tool to help you understand what we can collect as a household recycling collection.

If you put the wrong item in your home recycling:

  • We won't collect it
  • It won't get recycled
  • It could spoil the rest of your recycling and others too
  • It could cause problems with the machinery

Household Items that can currently be recycled in your blue bin are food and drink cans, mixed glass, mixed paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, tubs, pots and trays.

Under the new Simpler Recycling regime, by 2026 it will be compulsory for all councils across the country to collect the same items.

Do you know what happens to your recycling after its collected?

There are a number of informative videos online that show the whole recycling process, you can watch these videos on the Kent County Council website.
